Newlands Holiday Park is the perfect holiday destination for those looking for an action-packed adventure on the Jurassic Coast. Our family-run holiday park in Charmouth is ideally located for making the most of the stunning coastline and all the fun-filled watersport activities on offer in the area. Here's our pick of just some of the sports you can enjoy locally during a watersports holiday in Charmouth.
Stand Up Paddleboarding
If you’d like to see the Jurassic Coastline from a unique perspective and want to have a lot of fun doing so, we highly recommend trying your hand at stand-up paddleboarding on Charmouth Beach. Stand-up paddleboarding, or ‘SUP’ for short, has been proven to be the fastest-growing watersport out there and is incredibly enjoyable regardless of previous experience or ability. We think that stand-up paddleboarding is the perfect watersport activity to do with family and friends – so long as you don’t mind getting a bit wet!
If you’re looking to try your hand at stand-up paddleboarding, we highly recommend booking a lesson or rental with Jurassic SUP and Fitness. Jurassic SUP provides you with all the necessities to have an amazing adventure at sea including wetsuits, safety equipment, boards and a fully qualified instructor.
Kayak and Canoeing
We highly recommend going kayaking or canoeing whilst on holiday in Dorset - not only as our waters are some of the calmest in the UK, but it is also an excellent way to fully take in the beauty of our rugged coastline. One of the best places to go kayaking is from Lyme Regis, which is roughly an eight-minute drive away from our holiday park in Charmouth. If you need to hire a kayak, Lyme Kayak Hire offers a range of different kayak hires for an amazing day out exploring.
* If you decide to go kayaking, please always inform someone on land and never go out in dangerous waters.
Open Water Swimming
Charmouth Beach is an excellent site to visit if you’re looking to enjoy an open-water swim whilst on holiday in Dorset – what’s more, Charmouth Beach is only a short twenty-minute walk from our holiday park. Charmouth Beach usually always has a few quiet spots along its picturesque beach filled with fossils and rugged cliffs, meaning that this is the perfect spot for an early-morning dip.
Please note that there is no lifeguard on Charmouth Beach, so please always stay responsible when entering the water. We only recommend open-water swimming to experienced open-water swimmers. Similarly, the sedimentary rock surrounds this beach and there have been many landslides in the past, so please never sit close to or beneath the cliff faces.

Sailing and Powerboating
Completing a sailing or powerboating course is an amazing accomplishment to achieve whilst on holiday in Dorset. If you are looking to challenge yourself, we highly recommend booking a course at the Lyme Regis Sea School, which is a very short ten-minute drive from Newlands Holiday Park. The Lyme Regis Sea School offers week-long courses for either children or adults which are guided by friendly and fully trained instructors. If you are wishing to join a sailing course, please refer to the Lyme Regis Sea School’s website.
