Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens

Discover a Unique Botanical Paradise

Founded in 1765, Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens span over 20 acres and are celebrated for their unique plant collections from around the world. Thanks to the warm coastal climate, exotic plants and vibrant blooms thrive year-round. Couples will find themselves drawn to the garden’s winding pathways, peaceful ponds, and secluded seating areas that are ideal for quiet moments together. Don’t miss the Magnolia Walk and the striking Camellia Grove, which make beautiful backdrops for photos and offer a burst of color even in the cooler months.

Unwind with a Picnic or Afternoon Tea

For a truly romantic touch, pack a picnic and enjoy lunch among the flowers, or stop by the Colonial Restaurant on-site, where you can savor light refreshments, homemade cakes, and traditional cream teas in a serene garden setting. The terrace seating offers lovely views and is the perfect spot to relax and unwind before continuing your garden exploration.

Experience the Enchantment of Winter Lights

For an unforgettable evening experience, plan your visit during the Winter Lights at Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens. From late November to December, the gardens are transformed into a magical wonderland of light and color. Illuminated pathways and vibrant displays create a festive and romantic atmosphere as you explore the gardens after dark. The Winter Lights event makes for a special date night, allowing couples to experience the garden’s beauty in a completely different way, surrounded by twinkling lights and warm holiday cheer.

Getting There: Enjoy the Scenic Jurassic Coaster Bus

Leave the car behind and hop on the Jurassic Coaster bus for a relaxing ride from Newlands Holidays directly to Abbotsbury. The journey itself offers beautiful views along Dorset’s coastline, making it a delightful start to the day and a scenic way to reach the gardens without the hassle of driving.

Unwind Together Back at Newlands Holidays

After a day exploring Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens, return to Newlands Holidays to unwind in comfort. Couples can enjoy a cosy evening in one of our glamping pods or en-suite rooms, perfect for a relaxing night after a day immersed in nature. With all the amenities you need to settle in and recharge, Newlands Holidays makes it easy to relax and enjoy each other’s company, preparing you for more unforgettable moments along the Jurassic Coast.

'Excellent site with clean facilities, friendly staff!'

'Friendly staff, the staff in the shop was incredibly welcoming! Loved how we were escorted to our pitch and also offered help with putting the caravan on the pitch. Swimming pool was small but ideal, good sauna! Outdoor pool was lovely also! Facilities were spotless considering we had awful weather they work extremely hard! Very clean site, great value for money!'

"Definitely will be back"

Good location with Charmouth beach and lyme regis near. Nice facilities on site and nice rooms. The tow bar restaurant is a gem with great food. Liked the activities on our stay like bingo. Overall a good stay and would love to come back again.

"Everything we needed"

Very tidy site, well laid out and well equipped. Towbar restaurant offered a good selection of quality food at all meal times, very good value for money and super friendly service. There is a small shop on site for all your essentials with access to another slightly larger shop in the village. Two pools and children’s play areas plus a gaming room were a real bonus. Shower and toilet blocks were cleaned regularly and always kept in good order. Location is fantastic, especially for avid fossil hunters with Charmouth beach around 20 minutes easy walk away through the village.

"What a wonderful place"

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday at Newlands. We stayed in the studio apartment block down the end (A17). The apartment was incredibly clean, spacious and had everything we needed for a short stay. My twin sons (3.5 years old) had the twin room, mum had the double bed, and I stayed on a blow up mattress that I brought with. We were very comfy.
