In our last blog, we looked at some of our highlights from the summer here at Newlands. It’s been a great few months, and the summer isn’t even over yet! We’ve got lots more
exciting things to do in Dorset if you’re considering a late summer break with us at the park, and here are a few of them:
Great Dorset Steam Fair
One of the biggest yearly events in Dorset is back again this week – if you’ve never been to the Steam Fair, it’s a huge extravaganza of steam engines, classic vehicles, live music, spectacular stunt displays and much more.
It all takes place on a massive scale, spread over 600 acres (making it one of the biggest outdoor events in Europe). The centrepiece is the steam exhibition, with over 20 road steam locomotives on display and in action pulling huge loads for the entertainment of the crowd.
The stunt displays this year from the International Big Pete Monster Truck Display Team and the Bolddog Lings Freestyle Motorcycle Display Team, two of Europe’s most sought after teams. Anyone who enjoys watching extreme motorsports and seeing vehicles pushed to their limits will not want to miss this!
Lyme Regis Folk Weekend
This coming weekend also sees a brand new festival hit Lyme Regis – the inaugural Lyme Folk Weekend. The organisers are hoping this becomes a major annual event, and have put together a bill featuring some of the UK’s finest folk music acts, as well as a range of other entertainments including street performers, dance workshops and a VW camper parade.
The Marine Theatre will be the main venue for live music, with folk legends Martin Carthy and Dave Swarbrick headlining, along with Mercury Prize nominees Turin Brakes and BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards winners Kathrynn Roberts and Sean Lakeman.
As well as the theatre, there will also be performances on the seafront and in cafes and pubs around Lyme, as folk takes over the town from 30th August until 1st September.
