If you're a couple looking for a romantic break in West Dorset, our en-suite rooms are perfect for couples looking for a relaxing getaway. Here's our guide to things for couples to do to make the most of a short break in Charmouth and the surrounding area.

Beaches

Couples who are looking for a fun date idea in West Dorset, an obvious place to begin is with nearby beaches set on Dorset’s world-renowned Jurassic Coast. The views at Golden Cap are simply stunning and walking along the coast, hand in hand, is a great way to spend a romantic day.

For those looking to spend some time relaxing on the beach, Charmouth Beach and Lyme Regis Beach are both excellent options and both are under a 10-minute drive from Newlands Holiday Park. Charmouth Beach is a secluded spot, perfect for a romantic walk along the shore, with the sound of the waves providing a soothing backdrop for conversation. Lyme Regis Beach, on the other hand, is a little livelier, with colourful beach huts and stunning views to enjoy with your loved one.

River Cottage HQ and their Canteen in Axminster are both around 10 minutes away if driving from Newlands. The HQ provides an exquisite selection of cookery courses and events throughout the year, and River Cottage Canteen offers quite reasonably priced breakfast, lunch and dinner to enjoy with your partner. Places to propose

When it comes to proposing to your significant other, choosing the perfect location can be just as important as selecting the right ring. If you're looking for a romantic place to pop the question, you may want to consider the Cobb wall in the picturesque town of Lyme Regis. This historic wall has been a popular spot for proposals for centuries, with its stunning views of the sea and charming old-world feel.

Alternatively, if you're looking for something a little more adventurous, you might consider Golden Cap, the highest point on Dorset's Jurassic Coast. From the top of this magnificent hill, you and your partner can take in panoramic views of the coastline and countryside, making it the perfect backdrop for a memorable proposal.

Picnic spots

One romantic picnic spot in West Dorset to enjoy with your loved one is Coney's Castle. The historic hillfort is surrounded by stunning countryside, and in May, the bluebells come to life, making it even more serene. Imagine sitting on a blanket, surrounded by vibrant blue flowers, while enjoying a delicious picnic with your partner.

Abbotsbury Hillfort and Colmer's Hill also offer spectacular views of the Dorset countryside. You can hike up to the top of the hills, set up a cosy picnic spot, and enjoy the panoramic views while enjoying a delicious meal together. The scenery is particularly stunning during sunset, making it the perfect spot for a romantic evening picnic.

If you are willing to travel a bit further, Blue Pool near Wareham is another excellent option for a romantic picnic. The crystal-clear water of the pool is surrounded by lush greenery and trees, providing the perfect setting for a romantic lunch or dinner. You can relax in the grassy area around the pool, enjoy a quiet conversation with your significant other, and take in the beautiful surroundings.

'Excellent site with clean facilities, friendly staff!'

'Friendly staff, the staff in the shop was incredibly welcoming! Loved how we were escorted to our pitch and also offered help with putting the caravan on the pitch. Swimming pool was small but ideal, good sauna! Outdoor pool was lovely also! Facilities were spotless considering we had awful weather they work extremely hard! Very clean site, great value for money!'

"Definitely will be back"

Good location with Charmouth beach and lyme regis near. Nice facilities on site and nice rooms. The tow bar restaurant is a gem with great food. Liked the activities on our stay like bingo. Overall a good stay and would love to come back again.

"Everything we needed"

Very tidy site, well laid out and well equipped. Towbar restaurant offered a good selection of quality food at all meal times, very good value for money and super friendly service. There is a small shop on site for all your essentials with access to another slightly larger shop in the village. Two pools and children’s play areas plus a gaming room were a real bonus. Shower and toilet blocks were cleaned regularly and always kept in good order. Location is fantastic, especially for avid fossil hunters with Charmouth beach around 20 minutes easy walk away through the village.

"What a wonderful place"

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday at Newlands. We stayed in the studio apartment block down the end (A17). The apartment was incredibly clean, spacious and had everything we needed for a short stay. My twin sons (3.5 years old) had the twin room, mum had the double bed, and I stayed on a blow up mattress that I brought with. We were very comfy.
