Sea What's There

Sea What's There is an important event set to take place on 9th October, held at Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis.

sea what's there is an event to share the damaging effects of plastic, climate change, and overfishing

At Newlands Holidays we are dedicated to reducing our single use plastics. We were delighted to receive a Plastic Free Champion award earlier in the year – so this is an event we are keen to support.

Sea What's There will welcome four inspirational speakers to discuss the effects of plastic, climate change, and overfishing of our seas.

William Thompson

The explorer Willian Thompson is the author of The Book of Tides, and The World of Tides and Tide Walker. William has been featured in The Daily Telegraph, on the BBC, and in The Scotsman.

Anne Baker

In 2014, along with other scientists, Anne Baker famously took part in eXXpedition. From this experience she gained first hand knowledge of the scale of the challenge of ocean plastic pollution. She developed an in-depth understanding of the impact of plastic on our planet, the oceans, and our health.

Tom 'The Blowfish' Hird

Tom Hird is a Marine Biologist, broadcaster, author and science communicator. A regular face on British Television for the past few years, Tom has appeared as “The Blowfish” on CBBC, ITV, BBC, CITV and Channel 4 as Sunday Brunch’s resident wildlife expert. Recently Tom has presented the BBC worldwide production Fishing Impossible, which is now in its second series. Tom has written a book called Blowfish’s Oceanopedia – 291 Extraordinary Things You Didn’t Know About The Sea for Atlantic Books, following its initial success, the work will be translated into different languages for a global audience. He is credited as being the first person to play live music to sharks in both the UK and Africa.

Dr Adam Rees

Dr Adam Rees is a Research Officer for Blue Marine Foundation. His PhD was a study in a Marine Protected Area in Lyme Bay Reserve that focused on the ecological impacts of crustacean potting. He will be giving an update on how his fascinating work has progressed.

'Excellent site with clean facilities, friendly staff!'

'Friendly staff, the staff in the shop was incredibly welcoming! Loved how we were escorted to our pitch and also offered help with putting the caravan on the pitch. Swimming pool was small but ideal, good sauna! Outdoor pool was lovely also! Facilities were spotless considering we had awful weather they work extremely hard! Very clean site, great value for money!'

"Definitely will be back"

Good location with Charmouth beach and lyme regis near. Nice facilities on site and nice rooms. The tow bar restaurant is a gem with great food. Liked the activities on our stay like bingo. Overall a good stay and would love to come back again.

"Everything we needed"

Very tidy site, well laid out and well equipped. Towbar restaurant offered a good selection of quality food at all meal times, very good value for money and super friendly service. There is a small shop on site for all your essentials with access to another slightly larger shop in the village. Two pools and children’s play areas plus a gaming room were a real bonus. Shower and toilet blocks were cleaned regularly and always kept in good order. Location is fantastic, especially for avid fossil hunters with Charmouth beach around 20 minutes easy walk away through the village.

"What a wonderful place"

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday at Newlands. We stayed in the studio apartment block down the end (A17). The apartment was incredibly clean, spacious and had everything we needed for a short stay. My twin sons (3.5 years old) had the twin room, mum had the double bed, and I stayed on a blow up mattress that I brought with. We were very comfy.
